The ‘Intensive Seminar on the EU’ is the flagship programme of the Executive Education offered by the College of Europe. This is a well-deserved recognition as it predates the creation of the office which manages the professional training and consultancy services of the College - the Development Office. The first edition of the Intensive Seminar of the EU was launched in 1994.

During the 24 editions of the Intensive Seminar that have taken place so far, more than 1200 participants coming from all continents and representing more than 65 nationalities have participated.

Besides a comprehensive programme and excellent trainers, the added value of the Intensive Seminar has been the diversity and the variety of profiles of its participants. Throughout all these years, the Intensive Seminar has created a corp of alumni composed, among others, by personnel of national administrations and national representations abroad, international organisations and specialised agencies, NGOs, law firms, private companies of numerous sectors, as well as independent workers.

"Meeting participants from different backgrounds and nationalities, plus lectures and discussions on all kinds of EU-related subjects – for me a highly interesting combination!"

Cristina Verones
Scientific Advisor at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs
Participant of the 2014 Classic
three-week programme

This plurality of characters has helped to make the Intensive Seminar an even more enriching experience at all levels – A seminar tailored to your needs!

"In 1992, the Maastricht Treaty transformed the European Communities into the European Union. The idea to launch a programme like the Intensive Seminar on the EU was an ambitious project aimed at addressing a growing demand for knowledge on the newly created union. After all these years, time has only proven us right!"

Thierry Monforti
Director of the Academic Service at the College of Europe,
Coordinator of the 1994 (first) Edition of the Intensive Seminar
